Saguaro High senior quarterback Tim Ruben has helped Saguaro win 17 straight games, a state championship, is on the verge of rushing for 2,000 yards to go with his 2,000 passing yards.
And now he can call himself the best in Arizona. At least as far as Gatorade is concerned.
Ruben, who has yet to commit to a major college, was chosen Friday as the Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona in football.
It’s an incredible rise for a kid who started his junior season as a parttime player, sharing quarterback duties.
Because of an injury to the other quarterback, Ruben became the fulltime guy and promptly led the Sabercats to the Class 4A Division I championship.
He came into Friday night’s state semifinal game against Scottsdale rival Chaparral needed 132 yards to reach 2,000 rushing yards. He has surpassed 2,000 passing yards.
Ruben is now eligible for national player of the year honors.

$1,000,000 home - Now that’s more like it
November 24th, 2007
The most expensive home sold this week was 8025 E. Del Tesoro Dr in Los Tesoros.
I toured this home when it was for sale. The most unique feature of this home was that it was built in 2000. There are few homes in McCormick Ranch that new. It’s nice to have a newer home, however, it’s tricky to price a home when every other home on the street was built 20 years earlier.
This home has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths in 3,947 square feet with a heated lap pool, fireplaces and a 3-car garage. It’s on a corner lot.
This property was originally priced at $1,375,000 when it hit the market on August 10, 2007. The price was reduced to $1,295,00 on August 21, to $1,245,000 on September 7, and to $1,199,000 on September 19. It went under contract on October 3 and closed on November 5 for $1,000,000.
This beautiful home is not a good comp for most McCormick Ranch homes because it is so much newer.

A $1 home!
November 24th, 2007
Well, not really.
In the homes sold information I posted today, the home on 7885 E Via Marina shows a sales price of $1. Nice price.
So, what’s the story?
Let’s see what I can find.
It turns out the Seller was “Duane Larson Construction Co.” and the Buyer was “Duane Larson.” Perhaps he didn’t know that he didn’t need to fill out an Affidavit of Property Value for the County in such a transaction.

Former NFL players hit McCormick Ranch Golf Club for fundraiser
November 17th, 2007
This is cool!
It’s getting so big that organizers are hoping it will be a nationally televised event someday.
“That would really be cool,” said O’Brien, who kicked the game-winning field goal for the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V against the Dallas Cowboys. “If it gets that big, that would be absolutely all you could ask for.”
The Pro Player Classic, now in its ninth year and to be played at McCormick Ranch Golf Club, was created to provide educational scholarships and needed assistance to underprivileged youths.
A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will support the KidStar radio station and training program at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale, the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Desert Foothills YMCA.

Horses, cattle original McCormick residents
October 14th, 2007
The Arizona Republic took it from the McCormick Ranch Property Owners’ Association so I don’t mind including this entire article on the origins of McCormick Ranch.
===========================
Today’s question:
I live at McCormick Ranch. Who was McCormick and was this ever really a ranch?
Gee, don’t you ever read your Property Owners’ Association Web site? It has a nice, long history of McCormick Ranch (www.mccormick ranchpoa.com).
But here’s a condensed version, anyway.
The answers to your question are “the reaper guy” and “yes.”
Well, actually Fowler McCormick was the grandson of the reaper guy, Cyrus McCormick, who invented the farm implement. His other grandfather was John Rockefeller, so he wasn’t exactly hurting for cash. Fowler worked his way up from a factory job to become president and chairman of the board of International Harvester.
McCormick and his wife, Anne, bought the 160-acre ranch from Merle Chaney in the mid-1940s for use as a winter home. By the time the estate was sold in 1970, it had grown to 7 square miles.
It seems that, of the two McCormicks, Anne was the rancher. She lived on the estate every year from Thanksgiving to mid-April.
In 1949, she imported a small herd of Angus cattle from the family’s farm in Illinois to see how it would do in a desert environment. The herd eventually grew to about 350 head of show and breeding stock. The McCormick Property Owners’ Association’s logo is based on the McCormick brand.
But Anne’s real love was horses, one reason the McCormicks kept buying more land: Anne wanted room to ride.
She started out with palominos and then began breeding Arabians. She was one of the founders of the annual All Arabian Show, which is pretty cool even if you’re not all that interested in horses.
She also donated to Scottsdale the 100-acre parcel that is now McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.
Anne McCormick died in 1969, and the property, more than 4,200 acres, was sold to Kaiser-Aetna in 1970. Fowler McCormick died in 1973.
Kaiser-Aetna developed a master plan for a residential community on the property and later sold off 1,120 acres of leftover land, which later became Scottsdale Ranch.
