Liz and I decided to try out The Spotted Donkey Cantina in McCormick Ranch on the recommendation of Alexandra Duemer of McCormick Ranch Lifestyle magazine.

I like the ambiance a lot.  Some contempoary lines but friendly look.  We’re on the patio and it nice, not too crowded and the music isn’t too loud.  We can talk… as soon as I take a break from writing this review.

Great. After a little chatting the food quickly arrived. The $14 chimichanga is not your traditional chimi. It was served cut in half and standing on its ends! The flavor is very nice but a little too smoky flavored for my taste.

The cerviche was also good.

Service was GREAT! Nice ambiance. A great place to hang out.

First time I’ve been here.  Its busy.  8:00+ Saturday.  Took several minutes to get a table even though we had a reservation for the patio at 8:15.

I’m looking forward to trying their saag (spinach) with lamb.

Weather is great. Our table on the patio overlooks the parking area which isn’t great.

This location in the back of the shopping center on the northwest corner Hayden and Via de Ventura has traditionally been death to restaurants. There used to be a great Greek restaurant in this location that couldn’t make it. That might have been 2 restaurants ago.

The advantage of this location is that the patio is very quite which I love. We can chat.

Just ordered 4 entres and some garlic naan.

Nix the quite remark. They just cranked up the music to disco loudness.

Turns out the music is for a belly dancer. Funny, the Greek retaurant that used to be at this location also had belly dancers. And now that I think about it, that belly dancer had the same effect, to drive off the gringos. Tons of Indian faces here so maybe they like the loud music.

Food is great!

But plan your dinner to be done before the LOUD music starts. Tonight it started around 9:00.

They got their wish. The City Council, in a 6-1 vote, adopted the ordinance that excludes some streets, including the last-minute additions of Via de Ventura and Doubletree Ranch Road. Trucks are not allowed on those streets between Scottsdale and Hayden roads.

This path along Lake Marguerite is one of my favorite spots in Scottsdale.  It’s a glorious Sunday in October and the families are out in force on their bikes and walking along the path.  I’ve also seen a couple of strollers so far and a few joggers.

I was just going to shoot a few photos and move on.  Now I think I’ll sit here for awhile and take in the day.  Lovely slight little breeze.  It’s a nice little moment sitting here on the grass.

With my son and a $20 Groupon coupon.

Their Nutty German Baked Pancake is one of favorite breakfasts.  Pricey but a nice sometime treat.

Waitress says they sold 1,500 coupons  on Groupon (pay $10 for a $20 coupon).  I asked and she said that when they did a coupon on Living Social about 10-15 percent were never redeemed.

McCormick Ranch is known for being green and Camelback Walk is a great example of that.

Paths throughout McCormick Ranch are delightful to walk and ride. They’re one of the best parts of living in McCormick Ranch.
